Backspot is built on one principle: what you save is yours, and it stays with you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.
What the app stores, and where
- Places, notes, photos and voice transcripts you save are stored on your device.
- If your device is signed in to iCloud, your library syncs through your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit) so it appears on your own devices. This data is encrypted in transit, is tied to your Apple Account, and is not readable by the developer — Apple's infrastructure stores it on your behalf.
- Backups you create are ordinary
.zipfiles saved wherever you choose. They are under your control; the app never uploads them anywhere.
What leaves your device (and why)
- Reverse geocoding. When you save a place, its coordinates are sent to Apple Maps to look up a street address. This is Apple's service; see Apple's privacy policy for how it handles Maps queries.
- Dictation. Voice notes use Apple's speech recognition. Recognition runs on-device where your language supports it; otherwise audio may be processed by Apple's servers, per Apple's privacy policy.
- Nothing else. The app has no servers of its own and makes no other network requests.
What the developer collects
Nothing. No personal data, no location history, no usage analytics, no identifiers. The developer cannot see your places, notes, photos or location.
Permissions the app asks for

Each permission is requested only when you use the related feature, and the app works without the optional ones.
Data retention and deletion
Everything lives in the app. Deleting a place deletes its notes and photos. Deleting the app deletes the on-device library. Data synced to your private iCloud can be removed by deleting the app's iCloud data in Settings ▸ [your name] ▸ iCloud, or by deleting places in the app.
Children
Backspot does not collect data from anyone, including children, and has no age-gated content.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date.
